Capabilities

Built-in extras, installed per project: Notes and Excalidraw.

Capabilities are extras built into devpit and installed per project. This build has two: Notes and Excalidraw. There is nothing to browse and nothing to download — every capability is compiled into the app, and installing one is a decision this project makes.

The pane

The sidebar's Capabilities row opens it, and says how many are on. The pane's own note is the whole rule: "Built into devpit, installed per project. On, a capability gets its own place in the sidebar; off, it leaves and its files stay."

Search by name or description, and narrow the grid with All, On, Installed or Not installed. Each card says what the capability adds — "Opens beside your work", "Pins to cards" — and whether it is On, Off or Not installed.

Installing, switching, uninstalling

Action What happens
Install Asks first, then installs it in this project and turns it on. Its files will live in this project's folder.
The switch Turns an installed capability on or off. Off, it leaves the sidebar and its files stay where they are.
Uninstall Two steps. First it says the capability leaves the sidebar and its open tabs close. Then it asks whether to delete its data as well — off unless you tick it, with the number of files it would take. The last button names what it is about to do.

Deleting the data cannot be undone. Left alone, the files stay in the project's folder, and the pane says so afterwards.

In the sidebar

A capability that is on gets a row of its own under Capabilities, which opens its list — a place to go rather than a setting behind a popover. Turning it off takes the row away and closes its tabs. The rows are per project, so switching project switches which are there.

Where a capability may write

A capability's files live in devpit's folder for this project, in a folder of the capability's own name, and never in your repository:

~/.devpit/projects/<name>-<suffix>/data/notes/
~/.devpit/projects/<name>-<suffix>/data/excalidraw/

It may only own files in that folder, only with the extensions it declares — .md for Notes, .excalidraw for Excalidraw — and only while it is on. A file is capped at 32 MiB, a name is checked before the disk is touched, and a link pointing out of the folder is refused rather than followed.

Because they are ordinary files, a .md or .excalidraw copied into that folder from elsewhere shows up in the list like any other.
