Notes is a capability: Markdown notes that belong to a project, written beside the work rather than in another application. Install it from the Capabilities pane and a Notes row appears in the sidebar.
The list
The Notes row opens the project's notes, each with when it was last edited, and a field for the next one: type a name, press Create, and it opens. Refresh reads the folder again.
The list is read from the folder every time you look, so a .md file copied in from outside is a note like any other. A name cannot start or end with a dot or a space, hold .., a separator or a reserved device name, and a name already taken is refused rather than written over.
Writing
A note opens in a block editor — headings, lists and formatting in place. There is no split preview: what is on screen is the note. A pane of source beside a pane of output is two things to look at for one document.
A bar above the page carries the commands out loud: H1, H2, H3, Text, B, I, inline code, bulleted and numbered lists, quote and divider. The editor's own menus arrive on a selection or a /, the way a block editor usually does.
What is written to disk is plain Markdown, in and out. A note another tool wrote keeps its shape when you edit it here, which is the whole reason for the format.
Saving
There is no save button. A note is written a moment after you stop typing, and a tab closed inside that moment still writes what you typed.
Every write carries the time devpit last read the file. If something else changed the note while it was open, the write is refused rather than allowed to overwrite, and the pane says so:
This note changed on disk while it was open.
- Take what is on disk — reload the note from the file.
- Keep mine — write what is on screen over it.
Nothing is retried on its own; it waits for you.
Where notes live
In devpit's folder for this project, as .md files:
~/.devpit/projects/<name>-<suffix>/data/notes/
Not in your repository, and not in git. Uninstalling Notes leaves them there unless you tick the box that deletes them.
